Streamlining Primary Care: How Healtheon Empowers Modern Clinics

Healtheon offers a change management platform dedicated to simplifying healthcare processes
and empowering patients by harnessing digital tools that address today’s primary care
challenges.

It’s no secret that accessing timely and effective healthcare has become increasingly difficult in
Canada. Though the country has exceptional healthcare professionals and facilities, patients
often encounter long waits and limited time with providers.

Healtheon bridges this gap by introducing tools that streamline administrative tasks and improve
communication between patients and clinics. Healtheon’s solution features AI-enabled
technologies like AI-powered chatbots, a triaged messaging system, a voice-ticketing system,
and virtual specialist case reviews. Patients enjoy a more supportive, connected experience
while clinics operate more efficiently.

Through these innovations, Healtheon is committed to transforming primary care by making it
more patient-centric, accessible, and aligned with the demands of modern healthcare.
Healtheon creates a community-supported clinic by offering optional patient plans to cover
services that do not have a provincial fee code – uninsured services. Patients can choose to
purchase or not purchase a patient plan. Patient plans support the implementation of clinic
technology and improves the clinic experience for all patients.

Healtheon provides end-to-end support for clinics implementing its platform. From onboarding
staff to integrating team-based care models, Healtheon’s experts ensure a smooth transition
tailored to each clinic’s needs. The process includes training sessions, workflow optimization,
and fostering a workplace culture that embraces innovation and collaboration. By enabling
practices to adopt technology effectively, Healtheon not only enhances patient care but also
boosts staff satisfaction, creating an environment where teams work cohesively to deliver
exceptional healthcare experiences.

Enhancing Patient Safety through Better Medication Management

According to Statistics Canada, 52 per cent of Canadians aged 60-79 take three or more medications. As the population ages, the number of people on multiple medications will only increase. With multiple medications comes an increased risk of adverse drug events and a need to be more vigilant than ever in our prescribing practices.

Thankfully, modern tools like e-prescribing can help us enhance patient safety through better medication management. In fact, one often-sited U.S. study found e-prescribing reduced prescribing errors from 42.5 per 100 prescriptions to 6.6 per 100 prescriptions in one year, after e-prescribing. Illegibility errors were very high at the baseline and were completely eliminated by e-prescribing.

In Canada, e-prescribing is available through Canada Health Infoway’s PrescribeIT®, a national solution funded by the federal government.
